Joseph "Joe" Weitzel, 98, passed away December 31, 2022. Born July 2, 1924, in Arcadia Wisconsin, the son of Alex H. and Mary (Martin) Weitzel. He served in the USMC during WWII. Joe married Lucy Decker on December 2, 1943, in Torrington, Wyoming. He farmed near Scottsbluff, Nebraska, and was a fleet manager for Meadow Gold Dairy.

Joe was a member of the VFW Post #131 and served as a Deacon at Eastridge Presbyterian Church in Lincoln, Nebraska. He was a 4-H leader and Sunday School Teacher and enjoyed gardening, reading stories to his grandchildren and camping all over the country.

Joe is survived by his children; Joseph E. Weitzel, Daniel Weitzel, Mary Gerteisen, Thomas (Christine) Weitzel; grandchildren; Heidi (Brad) Ostwald, Mysi (Shane) Girdlestone, Dewey Beckstead, Shane (Lisa) Beckstead, Bryce (Morgan) Gerteisen, Kelly (Danae) Weitzel, Logan Weitzel, Charlene Hawk, Derek (Katie) Weitzel; 19-great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandson; sister, Martha (Woody) Woodiel; sister-in-law, Susan Weitzel; along with numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Lucy; children; Billy and Gail, foster son, Dale Rice; grandson; Devin Weitzel; sister, Rachel Wagner, Esther Houston, and Helen Alber; brothers; Robert, Dave, and Albert.

Celebration of Life will be at 2:00 PM, Friday, January 6, 2022, Eastridge Presbyterian Church, 1135 Eastridge Dr. with Rev. Dr. Melodie A. Jones Pointon officiating. Viewing and visitation will be one hour prior at the church. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Park in Scottsbluff, Nebraska, at a later date. Memorials may be directed to Eastridge Presbyterian Church. Condolences may be left at www.lincolnccfh.com.
