Actor. He was a prolific actor in the American film and television industry; he performed in at least 200 roles in his 20-year career. He usually played a lawman, a bad guy or a cowboy but had a variety of roles over his career. He had several recurring TV roles: The lead role of Marshal Frank Tallman in 23 episodes of 1958 to 1959 series "Man Without a Gun"; Sergeant Ben Landro in 7 episodes of "Perry Mason"; Sam Mason in "Davy Crockett"; Lt Malone in "Dante", and Sheriff Fred Madden in 6 episodes of "The Big Valley". There were TV series that he had 5 or more roles playing a different character each time: From 1959 to 1967, five roles in "Bonanza"; from 1958-1960, five roles in "Wanted Dead or Alive"; and from 1959 to 1967, six roles in "Gunsmoke". He was the vicious western gunslinger, Trigger Mortis, in the 1965 Three Stooges film "The Outlaws is Coming". He played the film role of a highway patrolman in Alfred Hitchcock's Academy-Award-winning movie, "Psycho". He appeared in 44 film roles with 21 being uncredited. In 1973, he played his last role in "The Streets of San Francisco" the episode, "Deathwatch" as Victor Snyder. A tall, ruggedly handsome man with piercing blue-eyes, he was born Mortimer Morris Kaplan. His cousin Mary Treen was also a successful actress.
