A sad accident occurred at the St Cloud Hotel, on Front street, Sunday, which resulted in the death of Verena, the little four-year-old daughter of fireman G W Hess, who lives there. The little girl and her sister, who is a few years older, were sent upstairs with a can of oil to make a fire. There were but a few spoonfuls of oil in the can, and no danger was apprehended. A few minutes hereafter Mrs Hess heard a report like the report of a pistol, and a child screaming. The oil in the can had in some way or another caught fire and exploded, which had set the child's clothing on fire. The mother succeeded in smothering out the fire, but the child was so badly burned that she died Sunday evening. - Hinton Herald
