Rose Ann Thayer, age 110 of Jefferson, Wisconsin, and formerly of Hastings, died peacefully at her home on Tuesday, August 16, 2016, two weeks shy of her 111th birthday.
She was born in Farmington, MN, near Cannon Falls in 1905 and was approaching 111 years old on September 1. She is preceded in death by her husband, Raymond H. Thayer, whom she married in Chicago in 1923; her sons, Robert K. Thayer and Ralph R. Thayer and their wives, Donna Thayer (Pospishel) and Mickey Thayer (Treml). Rose was the daughter of Francis Beissel and Ernestine Beissel (Feitz), both of whom passed away respectively in 1960 and 1954. All of Rose’s 5 brothers and 4 sisters have also passed away. A great granddaughter, Emmie Mae, also preceded her in death.
Rose is survived by her grandchildren Karen (Kent) Anderson (Thayer), Lauren (Mark) Nesslar (Thayer), Terry (Kathy) Thayer, and Trace (Joyce) Thayer, her son Robert’s children and Ranie (Jon) Bouchette (Thayer) and Scott (Denise) Thayer, her son Ralph’s children. Rose has eight great grandchildren and eight great great grandchildren with another on the way. In addition, throughout the Hastings, Cannon Falls, and Red Wing, MN area, Rose is survived by numerous nephews, nieces, and their children.
Rose met Raymond in Chicago where she moved after leaving the home farm. Rose was a nanny for a short time before marriage. Once married, they had an apartment in Chicago where her sons were born and raised. Later in life, Raymond and Rose bought a home in LaGrange, Illinois, a suburb of Chicago. During this time, Rose enjoyed gardening, her flowers, many fruit trees, and providing help and care to her sons and their families. Rose was very proud of her family and LaGrange home. After her husband passed away in 1983, Rose moved into her own home located on her son Ralph’s farm in Wonewoc, Wisconsin, where she lived for 30 years before moving to Sylvan Crossings, in Jefferson, Wisconsin. Rose was cared for by the staff at Sylvan Crossings for nearly three years. While living there, she enjoyed Bingo and numerous activities, church services, walks outdoors, and phone calls and visits from her extended family.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, August 27, 2016 at Caturia-Smidt Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Hastings, with Gordon Gathright officiating. Interment will follow services at Oakwood Cemetery in Red Wing, Minnesota. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the service on Saturday.
