STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- Vivian Scragg, 92, a retired bookkeeper and a homemaker who was devoted to her family, died Wednesday in Clove Lakes Health Care Home and Rehabilitation Center, Castleton Corners, where she had resided since 2009.
The lifelong Staten Islander was born in Port Richmond and grew up in Stapleton. She also lived in South Beach before settling in Grant City in 1962.
She graduated from Curtis High School.
Primarily a homemaker, Mrs. Scragg also worked as a bookkeeper for 25 years at Gulf Oil Co. in Manhattan.
Her family was first and foremost in her life and she most enjoyed watching her children and grandchildren grow up, family said.
Mrs. Scragg was proud of being a Staten Islander and an American, they added.
She was a longtime parishioner of Trinity Lutheran Church, Stapleton.
Her husband of 43 years, William, died in 1983. She also was preceded in death by her daughter, Barbara Scragg, who died in infancy in 1944.
The funeral service will be Saturday at 10:30 a.m. in the Harmon Home for Funerals, West Brighton. Burial will follow in Silver Mount Cemetery, Silver Lake.
