Jane Carey, 84, of Shreveport, Louisiana entered into eternal rest on June 6, 2023. She was born on January 1, 1939 in Shreveport to Floyd Harvey Carey and Lela Mae Holman Carey.
Jane Carey made her entrance into this world on January 1, 1939. Jane and her brother James were not only a New Year's surprise for their family, they were the first set of twins born in Shreveport in 1939. Jane had a passion for life, people, and animals. Her brother James says, "Her two greatest loves in life were for horses and dogs. She never own a horse, but as a child she had friends who were always willing to let her ride and help care for their horses." Though Jane always loved dogs, it was after she moved to Stonewall that she was able to fully express this love and concern. The people of Stonewall soon learned that if they found a stray or unwanted dog, Jane was always willing to make room for a lost dog. Jane once told me that taking care of stray dogs was her God given mission in life.
Jane's love and compassion reach for beyond dogs. Jane loved people. She embraced neighbors and strangers as potential friends. These new friend soon learned, they could count on Jane to show up with food or gifts, and one of her stores or jokes to lift their spirit in difficult times. Jane loved her family and friends very much and was always so appreciative those who touch and blessed her life. Jane loved to get gifts, but we all soon learned that when you gave Jane money or any other gift it would soon be shared with one of her many friends. Jane's life is an illustration of her favor salutation, "Remember I love you and God loves you!"
Jane was preceded in death by her parents, Floyd and Lela Carey; siblings, Marjorie Carey McElroy and husband William, Floyd Harvey Carey, Jr. and wife Winnie, Ledford Hugh Carey and wife Jewell, Mae Elizabeth Carey-Martin and husband Willie, Douglas Baylor Carey and wife Betty McCarthy, and Janice Louise Carey; brothers-in-law, Frederick Leo Maloy and Charles Arthur Paul.
Those left to cherish her memory include her siblings, Janet Loraine Carey-Maloy, Joan Carey-Paul, and James Carey and wife Midge Smith; brother-in-law, Sidney Elias Kent; along with twenty-seven loving nieces and nephews.
The family suggests memorials be made to Southern Methodist Church in Stonewall, Louisiana or Humane Society of Northwest Louisiana.
