Actor. He was best known to both film and television viewers for the numerous character roles he had during a career that spanned six decades. Born Richard Treat Williams, he learned the acting craft at Fulton Repertory Theatre in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, during his college tenure. He began his career on the theatrical stage before shifting to both film and television. In 1975, he made his acting debut in the film "Deadly Hero." He would go on to appear in such films as "1941," "Hair," "The Pursuit of D.B. Cooper," "Prince of the City," "Once Upon a Time in America," "Hand Gun," "The Phantom" and "Deep Rising." In 1983, his "small screen" debut came in the made-for-television movie "Dempsey." He went on to appear in such television productions as "Eddie Dodd," "Good Advice," "Everwood," "Heartland," "Against the Wall," "White Collar," and "Chicago Fire." In 1996, he earned a Primetime Emmy Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Miniseries or a Special Award nomination for his portrayal of Michael Ovitz in the made-for-television movie "The Late Shift." He also did voice work on the animated series "Batman: The Animated Series" in 1992. He passed away in an Albany, New York hospital after being involved in a motorcycle accident in Dorset, Vermont.
