Hendrik Kuneman was born on November 23, 1842, in Alkmaar, Noord-Holland, Netherlands, to parents Jan Hendrik Kuneman and Maria Bouman. He began his career as a civil servant and was appointed as a second-class controller in the Dutch East Indies. He later rose to higher positions, becoming the director of Binnenlands Bestuur (Internal Affairs). Throughout his career, Hendrik showed dedication and received recognition for his service, being appointed as a Knight in the Order of the Netherlands Lion. He married Johanna Knebel in Amsterdam in 1866, and they had five children, including Johan Herman Bernhard Kuneman. Hendrik passed away on April 1, 1916, in Brussels, Belgium.
