Dick moved to Ventura in 1961, beginning his professional career in the restaurant business, where he worked as a host at the White Bib. While working at the White Bib, he met his wife, Toby, and they were married in 1965.
Dick was well-known in the Ventura community through his involvement for many years in real estate. He was particularly proud of his housing developments in Ventura and Ojai. For the past 18 years, Dick, with his wife Toby, have operated the store Toby's Kitchen and Gifts.
Dick is survived and will be missed by his wife, Toby McGee of Ventura; daughter, Shauna McGee of San Francisco; son, Tim McGee, his wife, Julie, and their children, Austin, Emma and Riley, all of Sonoma; sisters, Carol Hill and her companion, Tom Wesson, of San Francisco, and Linda Rydell and her husband, Tony, of Moorpark; niece Terri Nall and her four children and one grandchild; and nieces Lynnann Stephenson, Tracy Rydell and Debbie Rydell. Dick also will be missed by his longtime employees and friends, Dee Autry and Yvonne Sanchez.
Those who knew Dick will miss his generosity, youthful spirit and sense of humor. He enjoyed cooking elaborate meals for his family and friends, especially sharing favorite recipes with all who would listen. He loved to fish, spending much time in the rivers of Idaho and off the coast of California. Dick was a true force of nature.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the charity of one's choice.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, April 3, at the Ted Mayr Funeral Home, 3150 Loma Vista Road, Ventura.
