Raymond was born on New Year's Day 1944 to R.V. and Annie Bartek Doskocil. He started dating the love of his life, Nancy Kahlig during the Spring of 1967 and they were married six months later, on October 22, 1967. Together, they created a beautiful legacy of four children, Buffy (Kevin) McClure of Sandpoint, Idaho, Tanya (Larry) Hoelscher of Westphalia, Erin Hare of Zabcikville and Todd (Suzanne) Doskocil of Zabcikville, eleven grandchildren, Luke and Noah McClure, Ethan (Kayla) Hoelscher, Hagen (Lacy) Hoelscher, Tatum (Chad) Giniewicz, Hope Hoelscher, Maddie and Logan Hare, Gracie, Carter and Bella Doskocil and six great-grandchildren, Cotton, Briggs, Lesley Ann, Laurel, Quinn and Acre Elliot. He is also survived by his siblings, Janet Kasner, Mary Ann Jones, Larry Doskocil and Delores Zipperlen.
As a teenager, Raymond (Baby Ray), participated in youth baseball where he was a standout pitcher season after season. In 1959, the league kept 15-year-old Baby Ray off the mound by adopting a new rule banning 15-year-olds from playing the pitcher position. Later in life, he relished the experience of watching his grandchildren excel in various sports.
Raymond was active in his community and was a lifelong parishioner of the Church of the Visitation in Westphalia. He served several terms on the Westphalia ISD school board. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus for many years and sang in the choir for more than 45 years.
Raymond will be deeply missed by all who knew him. One of the kindest souls on this planet, he was a gentle, giving man who worked tirelessly to ensure that his family had everything they needed. He faced every challenge in life with admirable strength and courage. Early in life, Raymond learned the importance of hard work as the sole proprietor of a well-respected conservation contracting company. He maintained a stellar reputation as an honest businessman and continued working up until and through his recent health challenges. He instilled that same work ethic in his children and grandchildren.
Raymond was always there for his family. He was a quiet, humble gentleman who was consistently kind to those around him, but when it came to his love and devotion to his wife and family, Raymond was fierce. He was a man of strong faith and valued the importance of family, hard work and doing what is right. He was a true role model who will always be remembered by those lucky enough to have known him.
Raymond is preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Lee Roy, Calvin, and Marvin Doskocil and his sisters, Irene Doskocil and Josie Kleypas.
The funeral service will be held at The Church of the Visitation in Westphalia on Tuesday, November 28, 2023 at 10:00 am. Visitation is from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Monday, November 27, 2023 at The Church of the Visitation.
Honey, Dad and Papa, you are now at peace but you will live on forever in our hearts. Your family loves you so much. Rest in peace.
