KING CITY - Barbara Gray Lorenzen, a former Sweetheart of Sigma Chi, died Dec. 19, 2006, after a long illness.

Internment was held at Winona Cemetery in Tualatin.

Mrs. Lorenzen was born Nov. 19, 1927, in Umatilla County, to Harold and Winona Gray. She lived on a farm on the Walla Walla River until her family moved to Milton-Freewater where she graduated from McLoughlin High School in 1945. She was chosen as Sweetheart of Sigma Chi in her freshman year at Whitman College.

She married Robert Lee Lorenzen on Sept. 1, 1947. They lived on a wheat ranch and later in Pendleton for over thirty years. Mrs. Lorenzen moved to the Portland area in 1977.

After moving to King City in 1988, she worked for many years as a volunteer in the King City Library. She enjoyed playing cards and was active in her church, serving as an usher and a Bible marker.

Mrs. Lorenzen is survived by daughters Kristine Healy and Mary Lee Budde; sister Velda Metelmann; brothers Harold S. Gray and Richard Gray; four grandchildren; and many cousins.

Memorial gifts should be given to her church or to the King City Library.
