He was a retired maintenance mechanic from I.C.I. of Americas in Charlestown. Carroll was a United States Army Veteran, a member of American Legion Post 204 in Sellersburg, IN, a member of St. Michael Catholic Church in Charlestown and the Knights of Columbus.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Dorothy Schafer, granddaughter Ashley Robison and brother, Jerome Schafer.
He is survived by his wife, Frances Krebs Schafer of Charlestown; daughters, Mary Cochran (Tim) of New Washington, Carolyn Cutshall of Underwood, IN; sister, Kathleen Lentz of Jeffersonville, IN; brother, Clifford Schafer of Charlestown; grandson, Tim "Splinter" Cochran (Sara) of New Washington; grandson in law, Jacob Robison of Sellersburg; great granddaughter, Avynne Cochran; step-daughters, Melinda Ross, of California, Tina Watson (Guy) of Tennessee, Alice Stamp (Bruce) of Marysville, IN; step-son, Wayne Priddy (Pam) of Borden, IN; 9 step grandchildren and 12 step-great grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday December 20, 2023, at St. Michael Catholic Church in Charlestown, IN with burial at St. Michael Catholic cemetery. Visitation will be held on Tuesday December 19, 2023, from 12:00 pm to 8:00 pm and after 9:00 am on Wednesday.
