Curtis Walter Mickan, 88 years old of Georgetown, Texas, went to be with the Lord on
January 12, 2024.

Curtis was born to Selma Richter Mickan and Walter Mickan in Georgetown, Texas on
January 5, 1936. He was one of four children: Harold, late Josephine, and Geraine. He
attended Zion Lutheran School in Walburg, Texas where he met and was classmates with
his future wife of 61 years, Marilyn. She decided at the early age of six that she would one
day marry Curtis by giving him a simple pin.

Curtis and Marilyn were married November 6, 1955 at Zion Lutheran Church in Walburg.
They lived in Dallas until they eventually returned to their roots in Georgetown. Shortly
after they were married, they were blessed with their first daughter Deborah Rene, born on
December 10, 1956 and welcomed their second daughter, Melinda Kay, on May 2, 1961. They
loved traveling and pouring into their children, giving them every opportunity they could to
succeed.

His professional career began with Auto Convoy. After some years in the field and office, he
was promoted to President of the corporation, at the age of 35. During his tenure at Auto
Convoy, he was involved in various National Boards for the Transportation industry,
including the advisory board for North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA). After a
successful career and upon retirement, they moved back to Georgetown and started
Heritage Properties, building numerous custom, residential homes, in elite neighborhoods.
Never one to stop working, Curtis had one more project up his sleeve, instigating and then
eventually partnering with his grandson, Josh, to take on a new industry in the region by
planting 23,000 olive trees on the Mickan family land.

A great passion of Curtis' was giving back. He accomplished this both at his local church,
Faith Lutheran, on the board of elders and various leadership capacities, as well as by
serving on numerous boards and building committees. One such role was serving on the
Board of Regents for numerous terms for Concordia University. His last official act being
the relocation of the Downtown Austin campus site to its current location - which includes
a 250-acre nature preserve. Unsurprisingly, he was honored by being named the 2011
Alumnus of the Year by Concordia University.

Curtis is preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Selma Mickan, sister Josephine
Cockrum, wife Marilyn Kelm Mickan, and daughters Deborah Mickan Burgess and Melinda
Mickan Swafford.

He is survived by brother Harold Mickan, sister Geraine Gottschalk (husband Bob), and
grandchildren Drew Burgess (wife Nadia), Joshua Swafford (wife Laura), Tiffany Burgess
Bogle (husband Samuel), Casey Swafford Rainey (husband Lance), Shaun Burgess (wife
Chrissy) and Benjamin Swafford (wife Hannah); great-Grandchildren Eoin and Judah
Burgess, Kennedy and Hadley Swafford, Isabella and Josiah Bogle, Landri, Quinley and
Kolbie Rainey, and Cooper Curtis (fondly carrying on his great grandpa's name), along with
numerous other relatives and friends.

Curtis will be remembered for many things, his dedication to his faith and his hard work
ethic being at the top of the list. He also set an exceptional example in matters of business
acumen that surely impacted his grandchildren. After working hard, taking time to relax
and enjoy the moment was also very important to him. Fishing and golfing were a few
pastimes he enjoyed with friends and family. A few other things he'll be remembered for
are: his loyal golden retriever, Heidi (who lived to the old age of 14 and passed shortly
before he did), his constant support of various charitable causes, his involvement in church,
his resolved frugality, his unwavering respect for higher education, and his desire to always
be on the top of his game. In short, Curtis Mickan was a force to be reckoned with, and saw
many successes in life because of his unyielding determination. This he balanced with his
deep love of family through quality time.

Pallbearers will be grandsons Drew Burgess, Shaun Burgess, Benjamin Swafford and Joshua
Swafford; grandson in-laws Samuel Bogle and Lance Rainey.

Funeral Services for Curtis will be held on Saturday, January 20, 2024 beginning with a
visitation at 10am at Zion Lutheran Church in Georgetown, Texas. The funeral will proceed
at 11am with Pastor Walt Pohland, Senior Pastor of Faith Lutheran, officiating. Burial will
follow at Zion Lutheran Cemetery, in Georgetown. Arrangements have been made
through Ramsey Funeral Home.

Memorials may be given to the Faith Lutheran Church Workers' Scholarship Fund (FLCMS),
Lutheran Hour Ministries (LCMS), Zion Lutheran Cemetery Fund, or the Texas Partners in
Mission - Texas District.
