Frank Laber, Sr., Sykeston, ND, resident since 1897, died September 6, 1934. Frank Laber was born in Austria on February 21, 1860, to Frank and Theresia (Lang) Laber, and spent his early life in St. Andra, Austria, near the Hungarian border. He came to the United States as a young man, settling at McGregor, Iowa in 1881. He moved to Parkston, SD, a year later, then came to Sykeston in 1897 to homestead on a farm east of Sykeston, in Bilodeau township. Frank helped build the railroad through the area. His marriage to Mary Sommer took place October 5, 1884, at Parkston. Thirteen children were born to them, eight of them surviving the father.

Along with his wife, the sons and daughters surviving Mr. Laber were Louis (Mathilda), Andrew (Mary), Elizabeth (Peter) Schaack, Frank, and Peter all of Sykeston, Anna (Bill) Power of Rugby, ND, Theresa (Floyd) Henderson of Lynchburg, ND, and Amelia (George) Seiler of Herried, SD. Another daughter, Mary (Matt) Huss, died in 1911. There were 29 grandchildren. Four brothers survived Mr. Laber, Matt (Elizabeth) and George (Mary) of Parkston, Andrew (Keziah) of San Diego, CA, and Joe (Theresa) Laber of Sykeston. One sister survives, Anna (Johann) Lang, of St. Andra, Austria. His sister Theresa (Frank) Pfann preceded him in death, along with his parents and 4 infant children, who are buried in the Parkston Cemetery.

Funeral services were held at St. Elizabeth's Catholic Church, Sykeston, conducted by Fr. A.J. Sommerfeld, and burial made in the church cemetery.
