J.W. is my grandfather. He was 1 of 9 children born to Alfred Settles Cockrum and Willie Ann Cochran.

He married Bertha Lee Akins in 1937 and they had 1 child, my mother, Peggy. They divorced when my mom was very young. My mom was the only child either of them ever had.
He then married Emily Nancy Davis in 1953, and remained married until her death in 1969.
He then married Ola Scott in 1970 and remained so until his death in 1977.

J.W. served in the U.S. Navy and was part of the clean-up after Pearl Harbor.
He did carpentry work. In 1977, he died from a massive heart attack while at a jobsite.
