Ball Passes Through Heart and Collector at City Water Works Office Dies Instantly in Closet at City Hall this Morning
Accounts of Office Are Correct to the Cent, According to Statement of State Inspector Now in Marietta---Wife Suffers from Shock
Mr. Bachmann was born in this county, November 5, 1859, and spent all of his life in Marietta and the surrounding country.
A man of pleasant and cheerful disposition he made friends of all who knew him. He was engaged in business here for many years and won universal good-will by the consideration and honesty which marked all of his dealings.
At the beginning of 1908 he was appointed collector of the water works office and held that responsible position until the time of his death. His accounts were accurate to the penny and he devoted all of his time to the work about the office.
He is survived by his wife and one daughter, Mrs. Ed Miller, and six sisters, Miss Sophia Bachmann, Miss Lizzie Bachmann, and Mrs. Will Arbour, of Pittsburgh, and Mrs. Anna Mesher, Mrs. Theobald Lang and Mrs. Margaret Laub of this city.
Mr. Bachmann was one of the prominent members of St. Luke's Lutheran church and was connected with the Red Men, Odd Fellows, and Eagles.
Funeral services will be held at 2 P.M. Friday at his home.
