Sgt. 1st Class David Nunez of Los Angeles, California joined the Army in 1999 as an airborne infantryman, serving as an assistant team leader with the 82nd Airborne Division's 3rd Battalion, 504th Parachute Infantry Regiment. David earned his green beret in 2005, and has been with the 7th Special Forces ever since. His decorations included a Bronze Star, three Army Commendation Medals, three Army Achievement Medals, three Army Good Conduct Medals and a National Defense Service Medal. He died in Shewan, Afghanistan, of wounds suffered when he encountered small arms fire while conducting combat operations at age 27. He was less than a month into his third deployment, his second in Afghanistan. He is survived by his sons, David Jr., and Julian; father, Julian Nunez and mother, Silvia Nunez.
