WANATAH -- Dr. Owen F. Benz, 68, of Ft. Myers Beach, Fla., former doctor here, died Sunday at his home.
He was born in Milltown June 13, 1907, a son of George and Rose (Bye) Benz. On Nov. 29, 1934 he married Virginia Hewlett who survives. He practiced medicine in Wanatah until his retirement in 1970 when he moved to Florida. He was a member of Salem United Church of Christ, American and Indiana Medical Associations, La Porte and Porter County Medical Societies, Masonic Lodge of Union Mills, Wanatah Lions Club and Ft. Myers Kiwanis Club.
Also surviving are a daughter, Audrey Mohlke of Wanatah; a son, Dr. Gerald Benz of Auburn, Ala.; four grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Cecil Satterfield and Mrs. Wendell Salisbury both of Ft. Wayne.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Salem United Church of Christ with the Rev. William J. Bertsch officiating. Burial will be in Salem Cemetery. Friends may call at Peek Funeral Home from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday. The family requests that memorials be made to Porter Memorial Hospital or Salem United Church of Christ.
