Born Oct. 23, 1945, in Iredell County, he was the son of Iris Sigmon Hoke and the late Phil Ray Hoke Sr.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served in Germany. Mr. Hoke retired from Hanes Converting in Conover. He was a former employee with Superior Cable in Hickory and Lackawanna Leather in Conover. Mr. Hoke was a member of Mount Calvary Lutheran Church in Claremont.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Toby Hoke. He is survived by his mother, Iris Sigmon Hoke of Claremont; wife, Carolyn Proctor Hoke of the home; a daughter, Jamie Lynn Hoke of the home; two sons, Jonathon Ray Hoke of Catawba and Timothy Lee Hoke and wife, Tammy Diane, of Hickory; a brother, Randall Hoke of Claremont; six grandchildren, Christopher Seth Hoke, Austin Hoke, Cara Hoke, Hannah Hoke, Dillion Hoke and Bailey Thomas Hoke; a number of nieces and nephews; and one great-niece.
The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. today, Thursday, June 19, 2008, at Burke Mortuary Chapel in Newton, with the Revs. Tom Gentry and Don Barrier officiating.
Burial will follow in St. Mark's Lutheran Church Cemetery in Claremont, with military graveside rites performed by members of American Legion Post 16.
