CONOVER - Phil Ray "Old Folks" Hoke Sr., 78, of North Lookout Street, Claremont, died Oct. 15, 1998, at Frye Regional Medical Center after a period of declining health. Born Dec. 20, 1919, in Catawba County, he was a son of the late Avery and Minnie Moser Hoke.
A member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church, he retired from the Catawba County school system and Herman Sipe Construction.
He was preceded in death by five brothers, Walter Hoke, Fred Hoke, Eugene Hoke, Earl Hoke and Johnson Hoke; and three sisters, Ollie Morrow, Zoie Warren and Mary Huffman.
Survivors include his wife, Iris Sigmon Hoke; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Phil Ray and Carolyn P. Hoke Jr. of Claremont and Randall Lynn Hoke of Claremont; a brother, Clyde E. Hoke of Claremont; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted by the Rev. Scott Bollinger at 4 p.m. Sunday at his church. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes prior to the service. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Pallbearers will be Norman Morrow, Clyde Hoke Huffman, Avery Kornegay, Tim Lowrance, Duane Carpenter and Perry Hoke. The family will be at Drum Funeral Home from 7 to 8:30 tonight.
