Death Claims Mr. Andrew Kainz Sr.

Resident Here for 50 Years Answers Call of Death Friday Following Six Months Illness

At his home in this village, on Friday, Oct. 4, at 1:40 o'clock a.m., Andrew Kainz Sr. answered the call of death following an illness of a few months. He has suffered a stroke about six months ago from which he never quite recovered. His passing away was generally due to old age.

Funeral service were held in St. Joseph church in this village on Monday morning at 9 o'clock and burial was in the local cemetery. All of his children were in attendance at the funeral except a daughter who resides in California.

Andrew Kainz Sr. was born in Daden, Austria, on September 25, 1850 and was 79 years and 9 days old at his death. He attended schools in the old country and on May 28, 1876, his marriage to Anna Koppy took place at Walla, Austria. The aged couple celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in this village three years ago.

It was in the year 1879 when the Kainz family left Austria for America arriving at St. Cloud by railroad which was the most distant point north of Minneapolis that could be reached via railroad. Mr. Kainz had as his destination this place, which was then known as Rich Prairie. Upon his arrival at St. Cloud Mr. Kainz left his wife and one child at St. Cloud and started out afoot in the direction of Rich Prairie. After a strenuous walk through much wilderness most generally occupied by Indians, he arrived here, although exceedingly tired and weary from the long journey afoot. The first night here he spent with the John W. Preimesberger family which then resided a mile north of town.

The following day Mr. Kainz continued to walk to a homestead in section 33 which he was to take up. He farmed in the vicinity about 5 miles northwest of Pierz all of his time here excepting one year when he resided at St. Martin and the last 15 years he has resided in this village as a retired farmer.

Twelve chldren were born to Mr. and Mrs. Kainz, four of whom have preceded their father in death. The deceased is survived by his wife and the following children: Mrs. Henry Nolting and Mike Kainz of Hope, ND, Joseph of Little Falls; Andrew of Platte; Mrs. Lorenz Boser of Lastrup; Mrs. George A. Duetsch of Minneapolis; Mrs. Joseph Boser of Onamia and Mrs. Loy B. Evans of Los Angeles, Cal. He was the grandfather of 24 children.
