Mrs. Gehl entered into rest on Monday, August 11, 2003 at the Live Oak Retirement Center. She was born in Chicago, IL on June 25, 1908. Her family moved from Chicago to Free Soil, Michigan in 1923 to become farmers. As a young lady, Mrs. Gehl moved back to Chicago where she met her future husband, John B. Gehl. They relocated to Shreveport in 1968 to be with their son, daughter-in-law and grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 65 years, John B. Gehl.
Survivors are one son, John C. Gehl and wife, Dolores of Shreveport, LA; two sisters, Sister Mary A. Morang, O.P. of Grand Rapids, MI and Estelle Sielski of Manistee, MI; three grandchildren, John A. Gehl and wife, Kathy of Winnsboro, LA, Rachel Kalbacher and husband, Mark and Kurt Gehl and wife, Faye, all of Shreveport, LA. Also survived by eight great-grandchildren and two nieces, Joanne Dunbar and Christine Fedder, both of Michigan.
The family would like to thank the staff of Live Oak Retirement Center for their loving care.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Nuns of the Dominican Order, 153 Lakeside Dr. N.E., Grand Rapids, MI 49503.
