Peter Bischoff, son of Valentin and Marianna (Borschneck) Bischoff, was born October 1, 1845 in Kandel, near Odessa, Ukraine. He married Elizabeth Sali, who was born on March 13, 1847 to Jacob and Katherine Sali. Peter and Elizabeth were married in Kandel, Ukraine on October 27, 1869. By the third generation of Kutschurgan colonists there was insufficient land available in the original colonies. Sometime in the mid to late 1870s Peter and Elizabeth moved the family to the daughter-colony of Koschary, 45 km north of Kandel.

In 1898 the family immigrated to the United States. They departed from Antwerp, Belgium on December 8th, 1898. The ship’s name was the S.S. Adria which arrived in New York Harbor on December 23rd. They went to Aberdeen, South Dakota and lived there until coming to North Dakota in the spring of 1900. Peter and Elizabeth homesteaded 160 acres of land in Gorman Township, McHenry County. They lived on their farm until moving in with their son Nicholas prior to their deaths. Peter passed away at the age of 76 on September 3, 1925 and Elizabeth passed away at the age of 82 on December 8, 1929.
