In 1867 the Bowlus family deeded the burial ground to Trustees of the Jacob Bowlus Graveyard for use as a public burying ground. Then in 1866 we find another deed turning the burial ground over to the township trustees to use as a public burial with the stipulation that when the trustees no longer used it for burials the property was to revert to the Bowlus heirs. Jacob Bowlus died in 1885. What few stones are here appear to all belong mostly to the Bowlus family.
