Ernst Meÿer was born in Lenzen, Preusen, Mecklenburg-Vorpommem. His parents were: Heinrich "August" Meÿer and Sophie Marie Elisabeth "Elise" Meier, both of Germany./LBK

OBITUARY Ernest (sic) Meyer of Oak, a long-time resident of Nuckolls county, died Friday morning, April 20th, at half past nine o'clock. Mr. Meyer was well known to most people of this county and he had been a successful business man. He represented the people of Nuckolls county in our state legislature in 1911.

Ernest (sic) Meyer was born in Lenzen Preusen, Germany, October 22, 1858, and died at his home east of Oak, Nebraska, April 20, 1923 aged 64 years, 5 months, 29 days. Mr. Meyer came to America in 1875 and settled in Olewein, Iowa. He became a miller and worked at Sioux Falls, South Dakota; Crete, Nebr.; and Minneapolis, Minn.

In 1885 he came to Oak and took his bride, Miss Augusta Ahrens, to Minneapolis. In 1887 they returned to Oak and took charge of the Oak Mills. This mill has had a splendid record, and for a number of years his son-in-law, J.R. Hoffman, has had charge. At the time of his death Mr. Meyer was at the head of a large electric plant.

Mr. Meyer was an affectionate husband, a kind father, a good neighbor. He was a Christian and a member of the Lutheran church. His last words were: "I am ready to leave all for Jesus." He was a member of the Masonic Order since 1895, and had reached the degrees of Knight Templar and Shriner.
To Mr. and Mrs. Meyer were given seven children - four daughters and three sons: Mrs. Louis Groshaus of Holyoke, Colorado; Mrs. J.R. Hoffman of Oak, Neb.; Ernst Meyer, Jr. of Superior, Nebr.; John Meyer of Oak, Nebr.; Mrs. Henry Behring of Deshler, Nebr.; Susanna died in infancy; Henry Meyer of Oak, Nebr. There are twelve grandchildren. Of his father's family he leaves one brother and three sisters: Carl Meyer of LaSelle, Colo.; Mrs. Geo. Poppe of Chester, Nebr.; Mrs. Albert Lantz of Olewin, Iowa; Mrs. John Thorman of Iowa Park, Texas.

A brief service was held at the house two miles east of Oak, after which the funeral services were conducted at the Methodist church in Oak, by the pastor, Rev. W.H. Mills. There was a profusion of floral tributes rarely equalled on such an occasion, giving evidence of the high esteem in which deceased wa held by his fellows. The Nelson Male Quartette furnshed (sic) the music. After this service the remains were taken to Edgar for interment, where the Masons had charge of the burial.
