Son of Franz Pyka and Susanna Sczepanik, John was baptised 23 Jun 1821 at Sw. Jacka (St. Hyacinth), Kamien Slaski, Poland. He married Francis Jaszkowitz 2 October 1843. The couple arrived in Texas 3 Dec 1854 and settled in Bandera.

Daughter Francisca was baptized 8 Dec 1850 at the same church. She married Charles Gersdorf 5 Jan 1872, and lived in San Antonio.

Daughter Carolina Pyka was baptized 11 Sep 1857 at St. Louis Church in Castroville, and married Joe (Frank Joseph) Postert 4 May 1886 at St. Stanislaus.

Johann Senior's brother from Poland, Anton (1824-1897) is buried at St. Michael's cemetery in San Antonio, FAG #41014053.
