EAST PEORIA, IL - Richard C. Messer Sr., 68, of 329 Shadoway Drive died at 3 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 22, 1996, at Messer Automotive, 509 Pekin Ave. in Creve Coeur, IL.

Born June 21, 1928, in East Peoria to Otto and Bernice Treharne Messer, he married Charmaine E. Place on Nov. 20, 1949, in Peoria. She died May 2, 1989, in Rochester, Minn. He also was preceded in death by his mother and one brother.

Surviving are his father of East Peoria; one son, Richard II of East Peoria; two daughters, Mrs. James (Lynnette) Lemon and Mrs. William (Nannette) Ringenberg, both of East Peoria; seven grandchildren; and one brother, George of Lebanon, Mo.

He was a certified master mechanic. He and his father founded Messer Autobody in East Peoria, which they ran for 30 years. He founded, owned and operated Messer Automotive in Creve Coeur for the past 10 years.

He was a former member of the Navy Reserves.

He was a member of the Peoria Singletons.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Remmert Funeral Home in East Peoria. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Fondulac Cemetery in East Peoria.

Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association.
