MRS. IDA HESS, 88, widow of J. Frank Hess, 315 North Grant Street, Waynesboro, died at 8:00 A.M. on Tuesday, September 9, 1969, at the Chambersburg Hospital.
She had been in failing health for two years after suffering a stroke. For a month, Mrs. Hess had been a guest at the Guilford Convalesarium at Fayetteveille, and was admitted to the hospital the Sunday preceding her death after suffering a second stroke.
She was born at Clearville on June 28th 1881, a daughter of the late Barton and Matilda Sleister Markle. Most of her life was spent in Fulton County.
Mr. and Mrs. Hess were married in 1912 and operated a farm at Warfordsburg until his death in 1936. She later made her home at Needmore and Chambersburg before moving to Waynesboro in 1960. Mrs. Hess lived on North Church Street before her illness but for 18 months had lived with her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Frederick Morrow, on North Grant Street, Waynesboro.
She was a member of the Christian Church of Clearville.
Mrs. Hess is survived by three daughters, Mrs. John Pensinger, of Chambersburg; Mrs. Marian Sprenkle, of Windson, and Mrs. Frederick Morrow. Also surviving are six grandchildren. She was the last member of her immediate family.
Funeral services were held on Thursday, September 11, at 2:00 P.M., from the Grove Funeral Home in Waynesboro, in charge of the Rev. Samuel F. Flora, Jr. Burial was made in the Union Cemetery, South of McConnellsburg.
