Lawrence B. (Winty) Zettel, 92, formerly of 803 Division St., Algoma, died Saturday March 12, 2005, at the Algoma Long Term Care Unit. with his family at his side. He was born Feb. 15, 1913, in Maplewood to the late Frank and Adelheidi (Babler) Zettel. After he graduated from the Algoma High School he worked at U.S. Plywood/ Champion International for 38 years. Lawrence married Beatrice Schones June 15, 1940, in Algoma. Lawrence was very involved in the community of Algoma, serving numerous terms on both the Algoma City Council and the Kewaunee County Board of Supervisors. He was a current member of St. Mary?s Church and served on the Parish Council and the Holy Name Society, Catholic Order of Foresters and was former Chief Ranger for the organization, he helped with organizing and served as first president for the Algoma Booster Club, past president and other positions of the ARC of Kewaunee County, and was very involved in the first state of Wisconsin recycling committee. Lawrence?s biggest hobby was gardening, both flowers and vegetables, he was a huge supporter of the Algoma High School sporting events, was an all around avid sports fan and loved outside hunting and fishing. Lawrence is survived by his wife Beatrice, one daughter, Sandra (David) Hearley, Green Bay; sons, Tim (Mary Kay) Zettel, Sturgeon Bay; Barry Zettel, Kewaunee; Mike (Terri) Zettel, Green Bay; and Pat (Barb) Zettel, Shorewood, MN; 12 grandchildren, Michael (Sandra) Hearley, Jessica (Marvin) Schaitel, Stephanie (Don) Ford, Lisa Simmons, Scott (Paula) Zettel, Amy (David) Barnes, Tracey Kleinschmidt, Tori (Paul) Saharsky, Tara (Chris) Hansen, Teal Zettel, Brittany Zettel and Michelle Zettel; 18-great-grandchildren, one sister, Sister Mary Robert Zettel, Milwaukee; brother Robert (Helen) Zettel, Milwaukee; sister-in-law Angeline Zettel, Sturgeon Bay. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Leonard and Francis (Loretta) Zettel and sister-in-law, Margaret Mary Schones and mother and father-in-law, Matt and Barb Schones. Friends may call at the Schinderle Funeral Home, Algoma, from 4-8 p.m. Monday March 14, 2005, and after 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary?s Catholic Church, Algoma, until the Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. with Rev. Tony Birsdall officiating. Parish vigil 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home with Kathy Zeman, Pastorial Minister. Burial in the parish cemetery. The family wishes to thank the Algoma Long Term Care unit for their extraordinary care and compassion that was given to Lawrence and his family during his stay at the facility and Drs.
