Christine H. McGhee
CLINTON, Oneida County - Christine H. McGhee, 90, passed away peacefully at her home in Sherman Brook Village, in Clinton, N.Y., on August 23, 1999. Mrs. McGhee was born on June 1, 1909, in the Town of Northeast, a daughter of Nelson and Wilhelmina Ahrens Hoffbeck. She was a 1930 graduate of Albany State Teachers College and did graduate work at Columbia Teachers College. Her 32-year career as a high school English teacher included Amenia High School, the Viewpoint School, and Webutuck Central School. She was a lifetime member of the Smithfield Presbyterian Church and was a member of the Millerton Grange. Christine was married to Arthur Hoag McGhee on Sept. 28, 1934. They were co-owners and operators of a dairy farm on McGhee Hill, near Millerton. Mrs. McGhees husband died in 1982 and she moved to Sherman Brook Village, in Clinton, in 1993. She is survived by a sister and brother-in-law, Louise and William Brewer; a son and daughter-in-law, Don and Gabrielle McGhee, of Holland Patent, and their four children and spouses, Alison McGhee and husband, William OBrien, of Minneapolis, Minn., Laurel Blackett and husband William, of East Kingston, N.H., Holly McGhee and husband, Michael Steiner, of New York City, and Douglas McGhee, of Minneapolis, Minn; along with a daughter and son-in-law, Marcia and George Deeb, of Nokesville, Va., and their children, Leslie and Paul Deeb, of Winchester, Va. Mrs. McGhee is also survived by four grandchildren, Luke, Devon and Min OBrien, and Charlotte Steiner. A sister, Elda Wheeler, died previously. The family is deeply grateful to her special friends, Sandra Stockbridge, Kathleen Valentine and Jennifer Bradley, for the loving care they gave Mother. Funeral services will be held at the Smithfield Presbyterian Church, Amenia, NY, at 2 p.m. 8/28. The family will greet friends and relatives at the Valentine Funeral Home in Millerton from 11 to 1 p.m. Memorial donations maybe made to: Millerton Public Library, Millerton, NY 12546.
