Katie Sterkel

Katie Bauer Sterkel, widow of George Sterkel, died in Loveland Memorial Hospital shortly before 2 p.m. Monday (Jan 22). She was 82 years old.

Born in Frank, Saratov, Volga, Russia, on Oct. 3, 1890, she was married to Mr. Sterkel n May 12, 1910, in Chester, Neb. The Sterkels moved to Loveland n 1912 from Lincoln, Neb. Their residence was 1228 Cleveland Ave.

George Sterkel died on June 9, 1971.

Mrs. Sterkel was a member of the First Congregational Church of Loveland.

Survivors include four sons, Walter R. Sterkel and Floyd E. Sterkel, both of Denver, Fred E. Sterkel of Los Alamos, N.M., and Manuel W. Sterkel of Huntington Beach, Calif.; two daughters, Mrs. Chester (Frances) Bender and Mrs. Fred (Helen) Lebsack, both of Loveland; two brothers, John Bauer of Longmont and George Bauer of Baltimore, Md.; 28 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, and one great-great-granddaughter.

A daughter, Mrs. Clyde (Pauline) Case, and a sister, Elizabeth Schaffer, died some time ago.

Mrs. Sterkel’s funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday (January 25) in First Congregational Church with Rev. Jon Almgren officiating. Kibbey Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Burial will be in Loveland Burial Park.
