PIONEER ABERDEEN CITIZEN PASSES ON
Aberdeen, Idaho, June 19. — Grandpa Cornelius Tiahrt, pioneer resident of this community, who located on a homestead two miles south of Aberdeen in the early days of the project, and who won the friendship and respect of many local people, quietly passed away at his home last Thursday evening. Mr. Tiahrt had reached the ripe age of 74 years, and remained active throughout his ailment working in gardens and on lawns for townspeople until his condition grew severe about ten days before death overtook him.

The funeral for Cornelius Tiahrt, Sr., was held last Sunday afternoon from the First Mennonite Church where a large congregation of friends and acquaintances joined his family in paying last respects to him. Interment was made in the Homestead Mennonite cemetery four miles southwest of Aberdeen.

An obituary, as read at the services, was as follows:

"Cornelius Tiahrt was born March 16, 1856 in Montau, West Prussia, Germany. In his early youth he was baptized upon the confession of his faith at Tiensdorf, Germany.

"In 1877 he came with his parents to Beatice, Nebraska. Here he met Anna Wiebe and was united with her in holy matrimony on March 31, 1887. they were blessed with seven children, four sons and three daughters. Two sons have been called home prior to the father's death.

"In 1897 he moved with his family to Paso Robles, California, where they lived on a farm until September 1906 when they moved to Aberdeen, Idaho. In 1926 he retired from the farm and moved to town. In My 1930 he went to a specialist at Soda Springs where his sickness was pronounced cancer. He was called to his heavenly home June 12 at four o'clock in the morning. He lived to be 74 years, 2 months, and 26 days of age.

"Mr. Tiahrt leaves to mourn his departure, his bereaved wife, two sons, Henry and Cornelius Tiahrt, three daughters, Mrs. A. H. Leisey, Mrs. E. C. Wiebe and Mrs. Otto G. Risser, all of Aberdeen, Idaho; one sister, Mrs. E. Fast of Reedley, California; 20 grandchildren and many other relatives and friends." — Aberdeen Times.
