Leo E. Stallbaumer died on Monday, February 7, 1983, at a Wichita, KS, hospital. He had been in ill health since a fall two years ago when he suffered a broken hip.
He was born January 13, 1895, the son of John and Louise Scheier Stallbaumer. He grew up and went to school at Kelly, KS. He was a retired lumberman and custodian. He and his brother, Fridolin, moved to Lillis, Ks in 1921 where they operated a garage and Leo worked at a lumberyard. He moved to Colwich in 1929, to manage the Colony Lumber Co., later moving to Andale to manage another Colony Lumber Co., until 1947 when he semi-retired.
He worked as a part time carpenter for several contractors in Wichita until 1956 when he was named custodian for Sacred Heart College in Wichita. In 1960 he moved to Wellington, Ks as custodian for St. Anthony's Catholic Church. He retired in 1974 and moved back to Wichita in 1977.
On May 3, 1922, he married Cecelia Wilhelm at St. Bede's Catholic Church, Kelly, Ks. Cecilia died January 5, 1958. They were the parents of four sons, Melvin Stallbaumer and William Stallbaumer, Wichita; Dr Fridolin J. Stallbaumer, Overland Park, Kansas; and Roger Stallbaumer, Wellington, Kansas. At the time of his death, he had 27 grandchildren, and 13 great grandchildren.
He was a member of All Saints Catholic Church, Wichita, KS. He was a life member of the Knights of Columbus at Wichita, and previously the financial secretary for the Knights of Columbus Council # 1267 at Andale. He was a veteran of World War I, having served in the Army in France.
Burial was in St. Bede's Cemetery, Kelly, Kansas.
