James Rhoda's Rites
Services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Wetmore Funeral Home for James Rhoda, 77, of Rt. 6, who died Thursday at Porter Memorial Hospital. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home this evening and until time of services.
A lifelong resident here, he was born in Porter County on June 26, 1895, a son of John and Augusta (Affeld) Rhoda. In March 1922 in Valparaiso, he married Lula C. Martens, who preceded him in death in July. Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by a son, Roy, in 1948, his parents, two brothers and two sisters.
He was a retired U.S. Postal Department employee, having served 30 years. Rhoda was a World War I veteran, and was a member of American Legion Charles Pratt Post 94, and VFW Hayes Post 988.
Surviving are two sons, Lewis and Eugene, both of Valparaiso, a step-son, Johnie Jones, Valparaiso, nine grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
