Both Mattie's parents where born in England. Her maiden name is unknown. Mattie was married first to a Thomas about 1882-1888 in California. They had at two daughters and possible twins Cora and May Thomas born in California between 1882 and 1888. She married Frederick Strothoff (b. Sep 1863 in California) in either Sonoma or Mendicino County. In 1900 they are living in Ukiah Township in Mendicino County. By 1910 Fredrick and Mattie with Fred and May are living in Santa Rosa Township, Matansas Precinct on the "Santa Rosa-Petaluma Road". Cora, alive, is living elsewhere at the time.
