KRUMLAND - Edward Krumland, retired Columbus businessman, died unexpectedly Sunday morning at his Heritage House Home. He was 89.
Tuesday services at Immanuel Lutheran church will be a 1:45 p.m. family prayer service and 2 p.m. funeral rites, with Rev. B.F. Meschke officiating. Burial will be in Christ Lutheran Cemetery.
The body lies in state at Gass-Haney Funeral Chapel until noon Tuesday, then at the church from 1 to 2 p.m.
Mr. Krumland, who retired at the age of 86, had spent 55 years in the produce, locker plant and hatchery business.
Lifetime resident of the Columbus area, he was born April 7, 1887 north of Columbus, where he was baptized and confirmed at Christ Lutheran church, attended District 10 and Christ Lutheran Schools and farmed for several years. Since moving to Columbus he was a member of Immanuel Lutheran church.
On Oct. 2, 1916, he married Hermine Brakenhoff at St. John Lutheran Church, and they observed their 60th wedding anniversary this month.
He is survived by his wife; five children, Edgar, Mrs. Loren (Alice) Wetjen, Harold and Mrs. Richard (Ethel) Sutton, all of Columbus, Ivan of Hutchinson, Kan.; one sister Mrs. Louis (Emma) Wilken of Columbus; 20 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents Gerhard and Wilhelmina (Kunneman) Krumland; sister, Mrs. Gerhard (Mathilda) Mueller; five brothers, Henry, Theodore, William, Adolph and Otto.
