"For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain." Philipians 1:21. Alexander Wachtel, age 77, passed away Feb. 17, 1999 in OKC, OK. He was born on Nov. 9th, 1921 to Max and Rose Wachtel in Kingston, N.Y. Alex's mother died when he was a month old. He was then raised in Jewish orphanages until his father remarried many years later. At the age of 16, Alex became a Christian. His love for Christ carried him through many difficult days. Alex married Hallie Roberts on June 29th, 1951 in Kansas City, MO. Their marriage was an example of Christian love, devotion, commitment and humor. Alex and Hallie spent 24 years as missionaries for the Church of the Nazarene in Israel. During his time there he was a friend to Jew, Arab, and Christian alike, as he served his God. Alex is survived by his wife of 47 years, Hallie, 2 sons: Norman E. Wachtel and wife Vickey of Houston, TX, R. Andrew Wachtel and wife Pam of Yukon, OK; daughter Janice A. Hertfelder and husband Gary of Santa Maria, CA; stepmotherViola Wachtel of Kingston, NY, brother David Wachtel and wife Marjorie of Saugerties, NY, sister Pauline Simon of Kingston, NY, 7 grandchildren, and 5 great-grandchildren. Alex will be missed by many who counted him as a friend. The words of the Apostle Paul resound, "I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteous, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day, and not only to me, but also to all whohave longed for his appearance."
