Kenneth G. Butke, 81, of Janesville, died unexpectedly Friday, January 16, 2009, at his home. He was born in Richmond, Wisconsin, on May 11, 1927, the son of Otto and Helena "Lena" (Wendorf) Butke. He served in the United States Army from 1945-1947 and was stationed in Alaska. Ken married Vivian O. Bass on April 7, 1951, in Elkhorn, Wisconsin. He worked for the General Motors Assembly Plant in Janesville in the transportation department for 40 years before retiring in 1987. He was an active member of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church and enjoyed bowling and golfing. Ken never missed his grandson's sports activities and loved watching Wisconsin Badger Sports. He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Vivian; two daughters and their husbands; two grandsons; three sisters-in-law; a brother-in-law; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and six brothers: Clarence, Corliss, Fern, Wesley, Earl, and Harley Butke. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Monday, January 19, 2009, at ST. PAUL'S EVANGELICAL LUTHERAN CHURCH with Rev. Cory Burma and Rev. Paul Garchow officiating. Entombment will follow in Milton Lawns Memorial Park. Visitation will take place on Sunday from 2 until 4 p.m. at the SCHNEIDER APFEL SCHNEIDER & SCHNEIDER FUNERAL HOME, and again, on Monday at the CHURCH from 12:30 p.m. until the hour of service.
