Flora VanDellen, 93 formerly of Grand Forks, ND passed away on Tuesday, February 17, 2009 at the St. Mary's Innovis Health in Detroit Lakes, MN.
Flora Koolstra was born on October 1, 1915 in Rinsumageest, Friesland, Netherlands, the daughter of Wybe and Agnes (Epema) Koolstra. On October 2, 1933 Flora was united in marriage to Hieke VanDellen in Crookston, MN. Hielke and Flora farmed north of Crookston, MN from 1938 to 1959, when they moved to a farm in Missouri. In 1971 Flora moved to Grand Forks, ND working at various jobs before becoming a Foster Grand Parent in 1978 which she enjoyed for 27 years until 2005. The children were her life and she loved going to work everyday.
Flora is survived by children: Albert VanDellen of Everson, WA, Agnes (Richard) Swiers of Detroit Lakes, MN, Henry VanDellen of Minneapolis, MN, Wilmer (Ada) VanDellen of Mentor, MN, Arlene (Alvin) Kramer of Grand Forks, ND, Dennis VanDellen of Denver, CO and Susan Allen of Portland, OR; 26 grandchildren; 66 great-grandchildren, 15 great-great-grandchildren and a cousin Jessie Brolsma of Crookston, MN.
Flora is preceded in death by her parents; her husband Hielke on June 12, 1964; brothers: Ted, Miner, Peter, William and John Koolstra a great-grandson: Mark Stap, and 1 sister Vivian Frisbe.
Funeral Service: 2:00 P.M. Monday, February 23, 2009 at the Stennes Funeral Home, East Grand Forks, MN.
Visitation: Monday, February 23, from 10-11 AM with a 11:00 Prayer service and 1 hour before services at the funeral home
