Mr. Winkels is survived by his wife, Sarah, also of Sacred Heart Hospice, Austin; sons and daughters-in-law, Vernon and Jean Winkels, Minneapolis, Mn., Edward, Jr. and Lorraine Winkels, Red Wing, Mn.; daughters and sons-in-law, Juletta and Larry Klepperich, St. Paul, Mn., Dorothy and Vince Berg, Rochester, Mn., Helen and Jim LaChapelle, Altoona, Wi., Winefred and Jerry Simon, Spring Valley, Mn., Agnes and Alva Inouye, Minneapolis; 22 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren; nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, March 28 at 11 a.m. at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Father Robert Herman as officiant. Music was provided by John Winkels. Interment was at the Sacred Heart Cemetery.
Ed Winkels was born February 4, 1890 at Stacyville, Iowa. He married the former Sarah Hueman on September 30, 1919 at Adams.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Rita. He was a past commander of American Legion Post 146 and a member of Olaf B. Damm Post 1216, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Austin. Winkels was a World War I veteran.
