Joel Gomez, 9, of Amarillo died Thursday, March 12, 2009.

Rosary will be said at 7 p.m. today in Blackburn-Shaw Martin Road Chapel, 1505 Martin Road. Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday in St. Laurence Cathedral with the Rev. Gabriel as celebrant. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery.

Joel was born Nov. 3, 1999, in Jalisco, Mexico, to Jose and Silvia Gomez. He loved to do art work and draw flowers and butterflies.

Joel was a very talented artist. He was a hero to his whole family, especially for how hard he fought for his life.

He was a son and brother who was loved so much and will be missed dearly.

Survivors include his parents, Jose Luis Gomez and Silvia Gomez; a brother, Jose Luis Gomez; his grandmother, Abigail Moreno; and two grandfathers, Jose Gomez and Jose Bedoy.
