CHARLES E. LEFFERS
GOLDEN, ILLINOIS--Charles E. Leffers, 79, of
Golden, died at 11:05 a.m. Friday (Aug 11, 2000)
in Timber Point Health Care Center in Camp Point.
Born April 26, 1921, in Columbus Township,
Adams County, he was a son of John and Margaret
Forrest Leffers. He married Dorothy Glenrose
Tournear, June 15, 1946, in Peoria. She survives.
Mr. Leffers was a retired farmer having worked for
Lawrence Leenerts for many years. He attended Elm
Grove United Methodist church and was a World War
II Army Veteran, having served in the Pacific Theater
on Guam, Leyte, Okinawa. He attended Hazlewood
county school.
Survivors in addition to his wife are two sons, Harry
Leffers and his wife Donna, of Henry and Floyd Leffers
and his wife Jane, of Quincy; two daughters, Dorothy
Berlin and her husband, Wesley, of Long View, Texas,
and Hazel Bangert of Camp Point; a sister Hazel
Balstrode of Naperville; 13 grandchildren; four great-
grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mr. Leffers was preceded in death by a daughter
Linda Jean Leffers; and sisters, Cecelia Leffers, Anna
Leffers, Rosie Carnes, Mary McDonald, Bernice
McMullen and Pearl Carnes, and five brothers, Fred,
John, William, Garnet Floyd and Harry Leffers.
Services were held at 10 a.m. today in Lummis-
Hamilton Funeral Home in Camp Point by the Rev.
James Allison. Burial was in Memorial Gardens in
Golden. Military rites were conducted by the American
Legion Post 801 at the cemetery.
Memorials may be made to Elm Grove United Meth-
odist Church or Timber Point Health Care Center.
