Born Nov. 24, 1918, in Columbus Township, Mrs. McMullen was a daughter of John and Margaret Forrest Leffers. A graduate of Hazelwood Grade School, she farmed with her husband near Mendon for many years. From 1973 to 1984, she was employed in the surgical department of St. Mary Hospital, retiring due to ill health. She was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church in Coatsburg where she was involved in the Ladies Aid Society and taught Sunday school and vacation Bible school. She also was a member of the Neighbors Birthday Club and Eagles Alps.
On April 18, 1940, she married Raymond McMullen. He died April 24, 1971.
Survivors include four sons, Arthur of Quincy, Russell and Delbert, both of Mendon, and Stanley of Vista, Calif.; five daughters, Connie Bradfield of Coatsburg, Joyce Lamanske of Ursa, Nancy Hummer of Camp Point, Janet Allen of Coatsburg and Cindy Kestner of Clayton; 30 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two brothers, John Leffers of Florida and Charles Leffers of Golden; and three sisters, Pearl Carnes of Liberty, Hazel Balstrode of Plainville and Mary Pieper of Macomb. She was preceded in death by six grandchildren and three sisters.
Services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Wednesday in St. Peter Lutheran Church by the Rev. Mike Thomas. Burial will be in Graymount Cemetery in Coatsburg.
Visitation will be held in the Lummis-Hamilton Funeral Home in Camp Point from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday in the church after 9 a.m.
Memorials may be made to St. Peter Lutheran Church or to the American Cancer Society.
