Elizabeth Bernadette "Betty" Mages Yosten, 96, of Muenster died March 21 at Muenster Memorial Hospital. Mass of Christian Burial was held March 24 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Muenster. Burial was in Sacred Heart Cemetery under the direction of the McCoy Funeral Home of Muenster.
Pallbearers were Michael Yosten, Sam Yosten, Phillip Yosten, Jake McCoy, Josh McCoy and Nathan Yosten.
History
Elizabeth Bernadette "Betty" Mages Yosten was born Dec. 11, 1915 in Lindsay to Frank and Annie Reuschenberg Mages. She was raised on a farm near Lindsay and all the children helped with the farm work. She later moved in and cared for the children of another family. She married Felix Yosten Sept. 10, 1940 in St. Peter's Catholic Church in Lindsay.
They lived on a farm northwest of Muenster and raised crops mostly to furnish feed for their dairy cattle. The primary income was from selling milk. They raised most of their food in an elaborate garden. They sold the farm and moved to Muenster in 1947 and continued to produce food in a large garden beside their home. She was a member of the
Sacred Heart Parish since 1940. She was a member of Catholic Daughters, St. Anne's Society and the Order of St. Francis. She enjoyed sewing, gardening, fishing, baking,
dominos, card games and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Survivors
Elizabeth Bernadette "Betty" Mages Yosten is survived by her daughter, Linda Yosten of Cazadero, Calif.; daughters and sons-in-law, Gloria and Bill Blanchard of Sunnyvale, Calif., Bernadette and Curt Chadwick of Los Gatos, Calif., and Monica and Karl Koesler of Muenster; sons and daughters-in-law, Cyril and Angie Yosten of Greenville and Tom and Joyce Yosten of Denton; 17 grandchildren; and 30 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Annie Mages; her sisters, Mary Grewing, Annie Fleitman, Dora Berend, Cecilia Berend and Jane Kindsley; and brothers, Joe Mages, Frank Mages, Jr., Leo Mages, Al Mages, Carl Mages,
Eddie Mages.
