Gwenivere Maxwell Nelsen, 86, loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully at her home on April 6, 2009.

Gwen was born on October 1, 1922 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Isabelle and William Maxwell.

She graduated from Granite High School. She loved to sing and belonged to several choral groups throughout her life. Gwen attended the University of Utah and LDS Business College where she met her future husband LeRoy M. Nelsen. They were married in the Salt Lake Temple on November 4, 1942.

Gwen was a valuable employee for over 35 years for companies such as Beneficial Life, General Motors, Redd & Redd Consulting Engineers, and H.C. Hughes Engineering.

Once retired, she spent many years volunteering for community organizations that included the American Cancer Society, UAMI, the American Heart Assoc., and many others. She was recognized by the State of Utah for her volunteer efforts. She loved her membership in the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers, Monte Vista Camp, and served in various leadership positions.

She was a lifelong, active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many capacities and organizations her favorites, being Primary and Family History.

She had a strong testimony of the restored Gospel and tried hard to live her life as she believed. Her love and zest for life was an inspiration to everyone who knew her.

Gwen is survived by her devoted husband LeRoy M. Nelsen, two children: Sherrie Lynn Nelsen and David L. Nelsen (Rebecca), six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, her sister Beverly and brother Calvin.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, April 10, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at the Hillside Stake Center, 1400 South 1900 East, Salt Lake City, UT. A viewing will be held on Thursday, April 9, 2009 from 6-8 p.m. at Larkin Sunset Lawn Mortuary, 2350 East 1300 South, Salt Lake City, UT. There will be a viewing held prior to the services on Friday at 9:45 a.m.
Interment at Larkin Sunset Lawn Cemetery, 2350 East 1300 South.
