"William Maxwell dies, 74 ~ Funeral services for William Stephen Maxwell, 74, 1920 Princeton Ave., former president of the Salt Lake Grocers Association, will be conducted Wednesday noon at 260 E. South Temple. He died June 16, 1974, at home after a long illness

Mr. Maxwell was a former partner with Ray Sudbury in the Sudbury-Maxwell Foodtown store at 422 E. 9th South. He was also a board member of the Utah Retail Grocers Association.

Mr. Maxwell entered the grocery business in 1927, taking his first job with O.P. Skaggs, for whom he became district manger.
In 1932, he became manager of the Crystal Palace Markets in Salt Lake City.

He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving a Northwest States Mission from 1919 to 1922. He was a member of the Fort Douglas-Hidden Valley Country Club. He was recently named honorark president of the John Lambert Maxwell Geneological Society.

Mr. Maxwell was born July 14, 1899, to John Stephen and Caroline Hyde Maxwell. He married Isabelle Randall in the Salt Lake Temple, April 24, 1919.

He is survived by his wife; a son and two daughters, Calvin William, Mrs. LeRoy M. (Owen) Nelsen, Mrs. Evan P. (Beverly) Schmuhl, all of Salt Lake City; 10 grandchildren; a great-grandchild; and two sisters, Phyllis M. Miller and Wilma M. Capson, both of Salt Lake City.

Friends may call at 260 E. South Temple, Tuesday, from 6 to 8 p.m., and Wednesday, one hour prior to services. Burial will be in the Salt Lake City Cemetery."
