PALO. J. Carl Swallom, 85, Palo, died Thursday in a Cedar Rapids hospital following a brief illness.
Born Dec. 11, 1888, in Clarion, he had lived in Palo most of his life, and had been employed at Iowa Manufacturing Co. until his retirement.
A veteran of World war I, and a member of Palo American Legion, he and the former Elva Sutton were married Dec. 11, 1920, in El Paso, Texas.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, are two daughters, Louise McClurg, Cedar Rapids, and Virginia Kysely, Palo; three sisters, Ida Kniffen, Virginia Ferguson, Sioux Falls, S.D., and Dora Bickford, Davenport; a brother, William Swallom, Cedar Rapids; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Services: Palo United Methodist church Saturday at 3 pm. There will be a military service by Palo American Legion at the graveside in Palo cemetery.
Friends may call at Turner chapel west until 9 p.m. Friday, and at the church after 11:30 a.m. Saturday."
