Joseph M. Distel was the son of John G. Distel and Anna K. "Annie" Appelhans. He died at the age of 35 years and 24 days.

Services for Joseph M. Distel, 35, Clay Center, were held Wednesday morning at Our Lady of Lourdes Church, Genoa. Burial was in Union Cemetery, Oak Harbor.

Mr. Distel died in St. Vincent’s Hospital early Monday after receiving 32 transfusions in six days. Physicians said Mr. Distel was stricken with an internal hemorhage while at home and that the bleeding had never halted. They termed the case rare. Mr. Distel never regained sufficient strength to enable them to operate, they said. An autopsy was ordered.

Mr. Distel, born on a ship bound from Russia to the United States, lived most of his life in Clay Center.

He was an employee of the Kelley Island Lime and Transport Company.

Surviving are his wife, Mildred; son, Joseph, J.; daughter, Patricia; parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Distel Sr., Graytown, O.; sisters, Mrs. Agnes Brown, Mrs. Mary Tomer, Mrs. Kathryn Detzel, Mrs. Rose Sievert, Mrs. Barbara Hemminger and Mildred Distel, and brothers, John Jr., Andrew and Jake, all of the Clay Center area.
