Elizabeth C. Haverkamp, 83, of Seneca, died Thursday, November 28, 1996 at Country View Estates Care Home in Seneca. She had been a resident there since November 15, 1988.

She was born September 9, 1913, on the Sudbeck farmstead north of Seneca, the daughter of Clem and Catherine McIntire Sudbeck. She attended Rock School, St. Mary's School and Sts. Peter and Paul School at Seneca. She helped on the family farm and did domestic work until her marriage.

On February 28, 1933, she married Edwin J. Haverkamp at St. Mary's Church at St. Benedict, KS. They lived and farmed near St. Benedict. Edwin died February 25, 1978. She remained on the farm until her health made nursing care necessary.

She traveled to Ireland to visit her mother's birthplace and also made a trip to Our Lady of Lourdes in France.

She was a member of St. Mary's Church and the Altar Society of which she was a former president. She had served on the St. Mary's School Board and was a 4-H leader for the Wildcat 4-H Club for many years. Elizabeth was a hard and diligent worker. She was a quilter and had made many quilts and teddy bears for grandchildren.

Survivors are daughters, Ellen Winkler, Corning; Lillian Engelken, Seneca; Eunice Winkler, Seneca; sisters, Margaret Dalinghaus, Baileyville; Emily Holthaus, Seneca; 24 grandchildren and 41 great-grandchildren.

Besides her husband and her parents, she was preceded in death by brothers, Ignatius Sudbeck; Clem Sudbeck; grandchildren, Steve Winkler on June 20, 1974; and Kathleen Engelken on July 23, 1979.

Mass of Christian Burial was held at St. Mary's Church, St. Benedict. Burial was in the church cemetery.
