Feldborg "Ray" or "Uncle Fie" Nielsen. Born in Prosser, Washington, he moved to Denmark at an early age ane came back to the United States in 1928. His father died suddenly when his sister Ellen was was four, he was two and his mother Ane was expecting their third child in a couple of weeks. Since the mother spoke little English, she took the two older children back to Denmark to live with relatives and came back to Portland to retrieve her infant daughter who was born just a couple of weeks after the death of the father.
When Ray came back from WWII, he owned and operated a trucking business on the Oregon coast until his retirement. He was an Army veteran and a member of the Disabled American Veterans and Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Ray and his first wife Kitty lived at Seal Rock for a number of years and were favorites of their nieces and nephews. He also owned and operated a fishing boat and was a favorite of all his nieces and nephews when he took turns taking them on his boat salmon fishing in the ocean, crabbing at Garibaldi Bay and clamming along the Oregon coast.
Ray was survived by his wife Wava who he married in March 1977, his sister Ellen and his nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews who all loved his fishing trips.
Ray was buried at sea at Depoe Bay during the annual Fleet of Flowers Memorial Day Ceremony May 25, 1987. Since there weren't enough places on the boat for all his family, many watched from the shore. sJones
